We’re Moving! (part I)

Back in November, ACRL approved our petition to form an official Interest Group: The Residency Interest Group.  There’s even a nifty little press release about it.  As an Interest Group, we will have meeting space at conferences reserved for us, budgetary support for programs, space on the ACRL server for this blog, and representation on the ACRL ‘Communities of Practice’ which will replace the current Sections Council.  We also get a new listserv for ourselves.

Although we have meetings at both Midwinter and Annual, an email list is our primary communication vehicle.
Through it, we conduct the regular business of our Group, but we also connect to other residents and program coordinators, and learn about new developments in residency studies.

Our new email list is on ALA’s Sympa server, and it is now live.  If you would like to join the list and learn about what is up and coming with residency programs, where the program vacancies are, when we will have meetings, and more, then here are some instructions for subscribing:

* The name of the list is “ACRL Residency Interest Group”
* The email address for the list is ‘acrl-rig [at] ala.org’
* To subscribe to this list, go to http://lists.ala.org/sympa
o If you are familiar with the Sympa system, then you can just login using the email address you’d like to have associated with the list
o If you have not used Sympa before, all you need to do is enter an email address you want associated with this list, choose a password, and you will be logged in.  There are no detailed profile forms to fill out.  It’s very simple.  Email and password.  That’s it.  This is an open list and anyone can self-subscribe.  Anyone.  You do not need to be a member of ACRL or even of ALA.
* Once you are logged in, locate the Residency Interest Group list.  You can search by ‘residency’ or you can click on ACRL under the Divisions list and find it that way.
* Click on the link to the list, and then click on the ’subscribe’ link in the left hand sidebar.  You are now subscribed.
* To email this group, just send an email to ‘acrl-rig [at] ala.org’
* To unsubscribe from the list, just login, find the list, and click on ‘unsubscribe’ in the left hand sidebar.  You are unsubscribed.

I’m an administrator of this list so I can check archives, help with (un)subscriptions as the case may be, and investigate whatever problems you may encounter.

Please feel free to subscribe yourselves to this new list.  Take it for a test drive too if you’d like.  If you see anything funky, let me know and I’ll check it out.
